Geraldine A’dell Roe, 82, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Visitation and viewing will be Saturday, June 19, 2021, from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m., at Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. A brief ceremony and eulogy will follow the visitation, at 11:30 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery Hospice Chaplain Gary Snook will officiate. Geraldine A’dell Turner was born on April 30, 1939, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Marjorie (Edgington) Turner. She was a graduate of Ottumwa High School.
On February 16, 1957, Geraldine was united in marriage to Emerson Edward Roe at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ottumwa. They were blessed with three children, Daniel, Gina, and Amber.
Geraldine was employed as an assembler at Sylvania in Burlington, Iowa, and later worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Iowa. Geraldine and Emerson lived in Fort Dodge, Ottumwa, and Burlington, before establishing their home in Dayton in 1966. While in Dayton she cleaned homes, was a contract cleaner for the Dayton Post Office, and worked as a caregiver. In retirement, Geri enjoyed working with her daughter Gina, at Bella On Main in Dayton. Emerson passed away on October 24, 2004.
In earlier years, Geraldine was active in the Lutheran Churches in Dayton and had served as head of the PTA at Hillcrest Elementary School in Fort Dodge. Her hobbies included working around the house, flowers, and gardening. She enjoyed time spent with family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Geraldine was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson “Babe” Roe, two grandsons, Tanner Edward Swanson and Brice Bergquist, one sister, Kate John, and three brothers, Darrell Turner, Alvin Turner, and Ervin “Quig” Turner
Survivors include her son Daniel (Teresa) Roe of Dayton, IA; two daughters, Gina (Bruce) Swanson of Dayton, IA, and Amber (Scott) Bergquist of Stratford, IA; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren, one great grandchild on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
