Gladys E. Wilcox, 85, of Lehigh, Iowa, passed away early Friday morning, August 10, 2012, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

Gladys will be cremated. A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, August 14, 2012, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., at the Christian Church basement in Lehigh. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton assisted with the arrangements.

Gladys Elizabeth Young was born on January 29, 1927, in Lehigh, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Mildred (Treat) Young. She attended Lehigh schools.

On June 30, 1944, Gladys was united in marriage to Raymond T. Wilcox in Fort Dodge. The couple established their home in Lehigh. Raymond passed away on February 23, 1999.

Gladys worked as a waitress, wallpaper hanger and painter, sold Sarah Coventry, and owned and operated the Wilcox Cafe in Lehigh for several years until retiring in 1992. She belonged to the Christian Church in Lehigh.

She is survived by three daughters, Sharon (John) Porter of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Betty Elsberry of Lehigh, Iowa, and Frankie (Jim) West of Dayton, Iowa; seven grandchildren;
21 great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Schroeder of South Dakota, and Patricia (B.J.) Titsworth of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, Raymond Wilcox Sr.; a son, Raymond Wilcox Jr.; a grandson, Lonnie West; a great granddaughter, Maladie Clabaugh; two sisters, Betty Johnson, and Florence Johnson; and two brothers, Albert "Sonny" Young, and Jim Young.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
