November 8, 1931 — June 14, 2023

Glenace Jean Doran, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Friendship Haven in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. Glenace was born on November 8, 1931 to Glenn and Myrna (Mason) Dvorak in Elberon, Iowa. Before high school, the family relocated to Coon Rapids. Glenace excelled playing high school basketball and was named to the Iowa Girls’ High School All-State First Team in 1949.

Following high school, Glenace moved to Des Moines to advance her education and continue playing basketball at AIB (American Institute of Business). She even traveled twice with her AIB team to Mexico City to showcase women’s basketball.

While living in Des Moines, Glenace met her future husband Jerald Raver Doran of Beaver. Jerry was attending Drake University and playing on the university baseball team. Glenace and Jerry were married on June 8, 1952. Following their university graduations, they moved to Grand Junction to begin farming. They had three children, Rick, Jeri Jean and Jac who were the center of their lives. The family spent many hours playing and watching sports, as well as attending many other school activities.

Glenace was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed watching all of the men’s and women’s teams and had season tickets to Iowa Football games for many years.

Glenace was fortunate to live independently in her home in Ogden until shortly before her 91st birthday. At that time, she moved to Friendship Haven Assisted Living Apartments in Ft. Dodge.

Glenace was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Doran, father, Glenn Dvorak, mother, Myrna Dvorak, father-in-law, Justin Doran, mother-in-law, Pauline Doran, sister, DeLores Wright and brother-in-law, Russell Wright. Glenace is survived by her three children, Rick (Mary Sue) Doran of Iowa City, Jeri Jean (Scott) Porter of Urbandale and Jac (Julie) Doran of Ft. Dodge, brother, Lanny (Suzanne) Dvorak of Carroll, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
