Gordon E. Plahn, 87, Lehigh, Iowa, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014, at the Startford Nursing and Rehab Center.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Pastor Richard Laird will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at the Dayton Cemetery.
Gordon Plahn was born on November 28, 1926, in Dayton, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Jane (Anderson) Plahn. Gordon served in WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946. After his service he traveled with the carnival for three years. In 1949, Gordon married Shirley Ann Collins in Dayton, Iowa. The couple lived in Fort Dodge. They later divorced. Gordon worked as a truck driver for 15 years and later worked for Tom Kelly Ford for 14 years as a mechanic and service manager.
On April 17, 1972, Gordon married Nadeane Long in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple lived in Dayton until moving to Lehigh in 1974 where they owned and operated Gambles Hardware Store until retiring in 1989.
Gordon was a member of the Christian Church in Lehigh. He was a 30year member of the Lehigh Lions and he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and raising Dachshund dogs.
Gordon is survived by his three children; daughter, Lynn (Rod) Engman of Lehi, Utah; two sons, Mark (Linda) Plahn of Des Moines, Iowa; and Clay (Jane) Plahn of LaSalle, Colorado; three step daughters, Deloris (Delbert) Nelsen of Lehigh, Iowa, Carolyn (Dale) Baker of Marshalltown, Iowa; and Sonya (Larry) Kelley of Lehigh, Iowa; 21 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and other members of the family. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nadeane Plahn, on June 26, 2007; sister, Esther Nelson, and his brother, Harold Plahn.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
