Harlan J. Huglin, 69, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019, at his home in Boxholm, Iowa.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at the Trinity Lutheran Church basement in Boxholm. Pastor Tim Hummel will officiate. Harlan James Huglin was born on June 24, 1949, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of James and
Carolyn (Thomas) Huglin. He was born on his grandma Thomas’ birthday “Midsummer Day” and they celebrated their birthdays together for many years. Harlan was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm, where the family attended Church.
Harlan graduated with the Grand Community High School class of 1968. That summer he worked construction building concrete elevators and then worked in road construction for several years.
In 1972, Harlan enrolled in the Omaha Diesel & Mechanic School and was certified to drive a semi. It was the love of his life to drive the big rigs. He was employed by G & M of Ogden for several years as well as Wenger’s of Beaver, hauling cattle. His over-the road life included driving for Smithway for most of his career, ending with Western Express before he retired. He also spent a few years hauling grain.
Survivors include his son, Wayne Huglin; daughter, Elizabeth (Josh) Johnson; six grandchildren, Julian and Hayliegh Huglin, Ayden Mosher, Jayden, Colin, & Leah Johnson; his mother, Carolyn Huglin; one sister, Jane (Tim) Hummel; nephew, John Hummel, niece, Janel (Chris) Mortale and family.
Harlan was preceded in death by his father, James Huglin, uncle, Niol Thomas, and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Memorials may be left to Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm.
