Hazel Hanson

Hazel A. Hanson, of Fort Dodge, IA, passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Tompkins Health Center of Friendship Haven, Ft. Dodge, IA.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2012, at the Lanyon Covenant Church. Pastor Marc Murchison will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.

Hazel Ann Hanson was born November 5, 1918, near Gowrie, IA, the daughter of
Emil and Adelia (Nystrom) Erickson. She attended Gowrie schools, graduating from Gowrie High School in 1936 and later from State Teacher's College, Cedar Falls, with a Two Year Teaching Certificate. Hazel taught students in both Callender and Boxholm schools. She also served as a Substitute Teacher for many years.

Hazel was united in marriage to Paul E. Hanson on May 25, 1941. The couple farmed east of Ft. Dodge for three years before moving to their farm near Boxholm, where they lived for 54 years. During those years she taught Sunday School classes, was a member
of the Lanyon Covenant Church and was active in its various organizations. She and
Paul enjoyed many winters in southern Texas where they volunteered at the Border Mission and at several schools.

In 1998 Hazel and Paul moved to Friendship Haven, Ft. Dodge, IA. While there Hazel enjoyed participating in a variety of activities and also volunteered her abilities at the Tompkins Health Center and at the Heritage Apartments.

Hazel is survived by son Kent and his wife Carol of Battlefield, MO, daughter Janet
and her husband Darrell Sells of Cedar Falls, IA, six grandchildren: Jowell (Lisa) Hanson
of Duluth, GA, Janell (Brian) McIntyre of Clever, MO, Becky Gardner, of Cedar Falls,
Amy (Corey) Ealy of Cedar Rapids, Chris Gardner of Santa Monica, CA, Michael Gardner of Antwerp, Belgium, seven great grandchildren, and one sister, Violet Bosch of Richfield, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul (2001), her parents, and her sister Dorothy Anderson. Hazel loved her family and enjoyed family gatherings.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in her honor to the Lanyon Covenant Church, the Trinity Lutheran Church, Boxholm, the Twin Lakes Christian Center, or Hospice of Fort Dodge. Non-specific memorials may be sent to: Kent Hanson, 5220 S.
