Hildred S. Fortune, 99, of Lehigh, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, December 13, 2011, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.
Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2011, at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh. Pastor Richard Laird will officiate. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton is in charge of the arrangements
Hildred Signora McClelland was born on December 31, 1911, in Cylinder, Iowa, the daughter of James and Sylvia (Grossnickle) McClelland. She attended school at Rodman.
On February 23, 1929, Hildred was united in marriage to Harold "Slim" Fortune at the United Brethren Church in Lehigh. The marriage lasted 73 years as Harold passed away on March 2, 2002.
Hildred worked at the McClelland Department Store in Fort Dodge for 22 years, retiring in 1972.
Survivors include her son, Tom (Sharon) Fortune of Lehigh, Iowa; daughters, Rosemary (Charles) Soderbeck of Reno, Nevada, and Rosalyn Martin of Bennett, Colorado; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 73 years, Harold "Slim" Fortune; son, Kenneth Fortune; grandsons, John Fortune, Tim Soderbeck, and Mike Soderbeck; sisters, Leona McClelland, Hazel Murray, Bessie Ball, Edythe McClelland; and brother, Orville McClelland.
