Howard Roberts, 88, of Pilot Mound, Iowa, died Thursday, April 2, 2015, at his home.
Howard's wishes were to be cremated. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday April 9, 2015, at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Burial will be in the Pilot Mound Cemetery at a later date. For online obituaries & condolences please visit: www.carsonstappfuneralhome.com
Howard Roberts was born on May 15, 1926, in Council Bluffs, IA, the son of Charles H. & Grace (Freeman) Roberts.
He attended school in Ogden until he was drafted out of high school to fight for his country in WW II. He fought in a major battle, the Battle of the Bulge. On June 18, 1954 he and Phyllis Tilley were married at the Little Brown Church of the Vale in Nashua, IA. They renewed their vows many times at the same church.
He was a farmer at heart, but also a tractor mechanic for many years. Howard worked as a custodian and bus driver for Grand Community Schools in Pilot Mound. He worked for Percival Scientific in Boone until he retired in 1988 to care for Phyllis. Howard was a dedicated father. He took pleasure in the activities of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; all whom he loved & treasured.
Howard was a member of the American Legion Groom-Kimsey Post #16 of Pilot Mound, VFW Post 817 and the Moose Lodge of Boone. He enjoyed playing cards with his Boxholm friends & at the VFW, Sunday morning at the Hunt & Fish Club and Friday at Toby K's for hot beef.
Survivors include his children, daughter, Kathy Ahrens of Ogden, Iowa, two sons, Joe (Sunisa) Roberts of Las Vegas, NV John (Debra) Roberts of Boone, IA and grandchildren Bobby (Jessica) Ahrens, Charles (Sarah) Roberts, Nickolaus Roberts and Joe T. (Wanitcha) Roberts, great grandchildren Taylor Roberts and Nora Ahrens & sister Edna Colson of Colby, KS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis in 1992, brother Lawrence, two sisters Pauline Patterson & Helen Oppedal and longtime friend Lucille Turner in 2014.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
