Imogene D. Hanson, 95, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019, at the Gowrie Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Pastor Lissa Kahl will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted by the Peterson American Legion Post #323. Visitation will be Thursday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Burial will be at the Dayton Cemetery.
Imogene Darlene Peterson was born on February 1, 1924, in Lanyon, Iowa, the daughter of George and Nellie (Swanson) Peterson.
She graduated with the Lanyon High School class of 1942. Following her education, Imogene enlisted in the United States Navy. She served her country for two years in the Medical Corp. during WWII.
On October 4, 1947, Imogene was united in marriage to Emory Earl Hanson at Faith Lutheran Church in Harcourt.
Imogene was a nurse’s aide and worked for Dr. Birch in Dayton, and later at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge, and then Boone County Hospital. Imogene and Emory farmed south of Dayton until moving into town in 1985. Emory passed away on July 17, 2012.
Imogene was a longtime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton where she was active in many church activities. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, and was an avid gardener and 500 card player. Imogene was actively involved with the Dayton Rodeo and had served as the Grand Marshall.
Survivors include her children, Earl (Georgene) Hanson of Dayton, Iowa, Kathy (Roger) Taylor of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Karen (Doug) Hahn of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Marlan (Deb) Hanson of Harcourt, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Loretta Hansen of Carroll, Iowa.
In addition to her husband Emory, she was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
