Janet H. Gift, 73, of Nevada, Iowa, and formerly of Ogden passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012, surrounded by her family at the Story County Medical Center in Nevada.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 4, 2012, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Gary Hoyt will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Following services Janet's body will be cremated.
Janet Hazel Leek was born on March 7, 1939, in Jefferson, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Helen (Ferry) Leek. She graduated with the Beaver High School class of 1957, and went on to receive her Master's Degree in education from Drake University.
On July 14, 1960, Janet was united in marriage to Don Gift. Janet and Don lived, farmed, and raised their children northwest of Ogden. The couple later divorced.
Janet taught school and served as the Principal in the Beaver school system. She later tutored and taught speed reading and comprehension in the communities of Ogden, Ames, and Des Moines.
Janet was of the Methodist faith and was a former member the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden where she was active in many Church activities. She enjoyed going for walks, writing letters, and reading her Bible. Janet loved spending time with her grandchildren and was proud to be an Army Mom and Grandma to her son, Phil and grandson, Christopher.
Survivors include her daughter, Cami (Travis) Bottorff of Winder, Georgia; son, Phillip (Heather) Gift of Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren, Tanner Bottorff, Casey Bottorff, Christopher Moore, Haley Gift, and Emily Gift; sister, Beverly (Wallace) Ray; brother, Jim (Patricia) Leek; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
