Jeanne Blyth

September 11, 1923 — March 21, 2018

Jeanne D. Blyth passed away peacefully on March 21, 2018 at The Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center. She was 94.

Jeanne was born Jeanne Denison Wilson on September 11, 1923 to Charles and Emma Wilson in Fort Des Moines, Iowa. She moved from town to town frequently with her family while growing up and then graduated high school at Ogden, Iowa in 1940. Jeanne then attended Drake University for two years before transferring to the University of Iowa where she majored in elementary education and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and with honors in 1945. She married Paul B. Blyth, also an Ogden high school graduate, on May 5, 1945 in Greenbelt, MD, near Fort Meade, where Paul was stationed in the army. She took her first teaching job there while Paul was stationed overseas in Japan. The couple then moved back to Ogden where Jeanne taught first grade and she and Paul raised their family. Jeanne lived in Ogden for over fifty-five years until 2006 when she moved to Glenstone Village in Grimes, Iowa.

Everyone who knew Jeanne would know her to be compassionate, caring, considerate, generous and thoughtful, always caring about other's well-being before her own. She eagerly gave back to her community, serving as treasurer of the Ogden library for years, listening to elementary students in Ogden and Grimes read to her, tutoring students in English as a second language and volunteering and serving at church in various capacities. Her family will always remember her as being ever so supportive, concerned and proud. Jeanne's eyes would light up whenever she had a chance to be with any of her four grandchildren or six great-grandchildren.

Jeanne is survived by her two sons, Tom (and Kate) Blyth of Lake of the Ozarks, MO and John (and Mary) Blyth of Clive, IA, four grandchildren, Sarah (Nick) Britton, Anne (Chad) Wearmouth, Alison (Mark) Weisheipl and Nick Blyth, and her six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, her parents, and a brother and sister.

Funeral services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Grimes in Grimes, Iowa, at 10:30 am on March 29, 2018. Rev. Jessica Wietzke will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. A graveside burial service will be held at 1:00 at Glenwood Cemetery, Ogden, Iowa.
