Joan Irene Wilson

Joan Irene Wilson (80 yrs old) of Fort Dodge, IA was called home to heaven on Thursday, July 6, 2023. She had been a resident of Crestview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since December of 2020.

Born on August 21, 1942 in Webster City, IA to John Perry and Vesta Ruth (nee’ Segar) Wilson. She attended Webster City Community Schools.

Later in life, she returned to school to finish her education at Iowa Central Community College, earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. She applied that education to her work at The Boys Ranch of Fort Dodge and in volunteering with the Salvation Army and other organizations.

Joan had a strong Christian faith and enjoyed spreading the word of God and celebrating our Lord and Savior through song and scripture. Her greatest joys were long walks in the park, singing, dancing and making new friends.

Survivors include her three children; Christel Wilson of Wood Ridge, NJ, Les Gunderson (Ellen) of Springville, IA, Russell Gunderson (Merilee) of Belle Plain, IA, her gandchildren, her brother John Perry Wilson Jr (Rhetta), sister Dusty Sanderson, and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her nephew Jonathan Winters, niece Sandie Frakes, grandson Kyle Gunderson and sisters Victoria (Vickie) Bordwell, and Elizabeth (Beth) Buhr.

She will be deeply missed; may she rest in peace with the angels.

Private family visitation will be held at Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Public graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Cass Township Cemetery, rural Webster City (D20 & White Fox Rd). Pastor Kay. Christie will officiate.
