Joann Sward

JoAnn K. Sward, 80, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Gary Hoyt will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.

JoAnn Kathleen Wills was born on December 2, 1931, in Iowa Falls, Iowa, the daughter of Lester and Vernice (Monson) Wills. She graduated with the Boone High School class of 1949.

On November 23, 1950, JoAnn was united in marriage to Richard F. Sward in Long Beach, California. To this union three children were born: Dana, Alan, and Scott.

JoAnn lived in California while Dick served his Country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War. Following Dick's honorable discharge the couple returned to Iowa and made their home in Boone. In January of 1961, Dick and JoAnn moved to Ogden.

JoAnn was a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. She enjoyed traveling to Lake Havasu where she enjoyed, camping, shopping and going to the casino. Her passions were animals, reading, gardening and flowers, and cooking for her family and friends.

Among the survivors are her husband of 61 years, Dick Sward of Ogden, Iowa; three sons, Dana (Colleen) Sward of Waukee, Iowa, Alan (Jodi) Sward of Ogden, Iowa, and Scott (Darla) Sward of Boone, Iowa; five grandchildren, Blane Sward, Jessi Sward (Jason Lass), Tyler Sward, Mycah Sward, and Tasha (Gabe) Lanz. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Marlys Lamfers, and her granddaughter, Shelly Sward.
