John Franklin Wheeler

John Franklin Wheeler, 80, of Ogden, Iowa passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at his home in Ogden while surrounded by his loving family.

John, son of John and Laura (Hommer) Wheeler, was born on October 30, 1942 in Chula Vista, California. John graduated from Boone High School with the class of 1961. Following his education, John worked for the Department of Transportation, Napier COOP and Bourns Electronics. He then started his career at the Fareway Warehouse where he was employed for over 37 years before retiring as Warehouse Supervisor.

In 1962, John was united in marriage to Rita Lindgren in Milo, Iowa. The couple resided in Boone and Napier before making their home in Ogden where they raised their sons.

John was a former member of the Ogden Saddle Club. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking, and fishing. He also had a love for all animals, especially horses. John enjoyed his many fishing trips with his friends and family to Minnesota and horse trail riding in Missouri.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his son in infancy, Robert Wheeler; and his sister, Linda Cheville.

Survivors include his loving wife, Rita Wheeler of Ogden; two sons, John (Jennifer) Wheeler and James (Katie) Wheeler both of Ogden; grandchildren, Josh (Katie) Wheeler of Urbandale, Jessica (Kyle) Richman of Waukee, and Emma Blair of Ogden; great grandchildren, Jonathan, Sawyer, Kaden, and Camryn; sister, Laura (Charles) Buerckley of Carroll; brother, Roger (Jeanette) Wheeler of Surprise, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for John will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023, at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Pastor Curt Fincham will officiate. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. A visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
