John Jr. Chiles

April 20, 1928 — June 27, 2009

John "Sam" Chiles Jr., 81, of Madrid, Iowa, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Boone County Hospital.

Sam's wishes were to be cremated. Private burial of ashes will be held at Renner Cemetery rural Boxholm. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 30, 2009, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.

John Samuel Chiles Jr. was born on April 20, 1928, in Boone, Iowa, the son of John Sr. and Minnie (Bass) Chiles. He graduated with the Boone High School class of 1946.
Sam worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad for over 30 years until retiring. He was united in marriage to Elaine Tiffany on February 18, 1969. The couple had lived in Boone, Oregon, Texas, and later made their home in Ogden. In November of 2006, Sam and Elaine moved to the Cedars in Madrid.

Sam belonged to the Pilot Mound United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Chiles of Madrid, Iowa; one son, Rodney Chiles of Minnesota; eight daughters, Debbie (Bob) Burgess of Ogden, Iowa, Lucretia (Mike) Frazer of Ogden, Iowa, Diane (Rodney) Bennett of Boone, Iowa, Donna (Mark) Savonell of Harcourt, Iowa, Tammy Sue (Jim) Anderson of Boone, Iowa, Marcy (Ken) Carter of Florence, Oregon, Sue (Dick) Anderson of Ogden, Iowa, and Tammy Jeanne Tiffany and her companion (Randy Parks) of Davenport, Iowa; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Cecil Chiles; and one sister, Marie Bass.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
