John Robert "Bob" Burt, 87, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2015, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden. Pastor Chris Cowan will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. John Robert Burt was born on January 21, 1928, in Ogden, Iowa, the son of John and Olga (Hanson) Burt. He graduated with the Ogden High School class of 1946.
On February 15, 1947, Bob was united in marriage to Betty Grimm. To this union four children were born: Elaine, Rebecca, John V., and Patricia. Bob worked at Northern Natural Gas as a heavy equipment operator for over 40 years.
Bob belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden. He loved hobby farming and helping his son, John, on his farm. Over the years, Bob had taken many fishing trips with his buddies to Minnesota and North Dakota. Most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Burt; four children, Elaine (Frank) Marsh of Grimes, Iowa, Becky (Mark) Benton of Guthrie Center, Iowa, John V. Burt of Pilot Mound, Iowa, and Pat (Jeff) Peterson of Dayton, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Carrie (Darin) Sloss, Erin (Peter) Smith, Julie Larson, Katie (Ben) VanSickle, Jill (Steven)Bintz, John A., Hannah, Alyx, and Audra Burt, three step grandchildren, Blake Benton, Libby Adkins, and McKenzie Smith; eleven great-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Ann Haleen of Ogden, Iowa, and Kay (Bernie) Miller of Woodland Hills, California; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Betty Elaine Burt in infancy, Phyllis Buckley, and Alice Barnett; and one brother, Bill Burt.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
