June D. Nemechek, 92, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Monday morning, December 7, 2020, at her daughter’s home in Algona.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 11, 2020, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, masks are required and only 15 people at a time can be present inside the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at the McGuire Bend Church, rural Dayton on Saturday, December 12, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Doug Samuelson will officiate. June Darlene Knox was born on June 9, 1928, in Buckeye, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Hattie (Hildahl) Knox. She graduated with the Stratford High School class of 1947. On July 19, 1947, June was united in marriage to Dale LeRoy Nemechek. The couple lived in Fort Dodge, and Duncombe, prior to moving to Dayton in 1966, where they established their home. Dale passed away on July 8, 2004.
June was a fulltime homemaker and mother, but later was employed at CDS. She was a member of the Women’s Relief Corp in Dayton. She was an avid reader and enjoyed genealogy, and with her sister Esther, traced their family roots back many generations in Norway.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dale Nemechek, four children in infancy, four brothers, Jack, Harry, Charles, and Don, four sisters, Sarah Fleming, Ruth Blair, Lela Haglund, Esther Murray, and several in laws.
Survivors include two sons, John (Cindy) Nemechek of Ankeny, IA, and Jeff Nemechek of Dayton, IA; three daughters, Judy (Don) Heidner of Algona, IA, Jeanne (Peter) Collette of Tomahawk, WI, and Joanne (Rick) Ekstrom of Dayton, IA; 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two sisters, Gladys Bell of Iowa Falls, IA, and Audrey (Elzy) Johnson of Woolstock, IA.
Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
