June Ellen Gunderson

June E. Gunderson, 56, of Lehigh, Iowa, passed away on Friday morning, May 15, 2020, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2020 at Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Pastor Kay. Christie will officiate. Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton has been entrusted with the arrangements.

June Ellen Westlund, daughter of William and Grace (Liljequist) Westlund was born on June 1, 1963, in Moorhead, Minnesota. At the age of 13, June was in a car accident that resulted in a broken back and paralyzed her for many weeks. She was told that she would never walk again, never be able to have children, and that she would not live past the age of 25. This woman was not going to let that stop her. She walked, had a son, and lived twice the amount of time that doctors had originally told her. She then graduated with the Hawley, MN, High School class of 1981, and studied accounting in college.

June was a big kid at heart. She always loved spending as much time as she could with her nieces and nephews. They were like her own kids. She also loved to participate and drive James and his friends around for pranks and hijinks when they were younger. She also called them all her sons.

In 2004, June moved from Newton, IA, to her present home in Lehigh. She was united in marriage to her true love, Terry Gunderson on May 21, 2005. June’s main vocation was as a homemaker.

June loved her cats (a borderline crazy cat lady), playing Skip-Bo with friends and family, and most of all her grandchildren. She loved swimming with Lu and Mason, taking them out on dates, and anytime that was spent with them was precious to her. June was the worlds greatest mother, wife, sister, aunt, Grandma and best friend anyone could ever ask for. She had an infectious laugh and radiated love that no one will ever forget.

Survivors include her husband, Terry Gunderson of Lehigh, IA; son, James (Carrie) Armstrong, and grandchildren, Luciana and Mason Armstrong of Altoona, IA; seven siblings, Wes (Pat) Westlund, Jim (Sherry) Westlund, Sheila Warmuth, Frank (Kelly) Westlund, Keith (Anne) Westlund, Walter Westlund, and Becki Westlund; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins

She was preceded in death by her parents, and maternal & paternal grandparents.
