Kathy A. Ahrens, 69, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home Hearthstone Memory Care Unit in Boone, Iowa.

Kathy was born on June 2, 1955, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Phyllis (Tilley) Roberts.

Kathy was an avid sports fan following her son’s baseball and football teams and also everything Hawkeye’s. She traveled to Iowa City many times to cheer them on and also went to Kansas City to cheer on the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Kansas City Royals. Kathy was well known for her bowling, participating in state tournaments each year. She was the secretary of the Boone County United States Bowling Congress, keeping numerous records, statistics, and awards.

Kathy was a custodian for the Ogden School District and was also a gifted electrician, doing all of her own wiring and generously helping her family and friends troubleshoot their issues. She was quite the Do It Yourselfer, remodeling her home and her father’s house. She always referred to herself as a “Farm Girl” growing up on the farm just west of Pilot Mound.

Kathy was baptized and confirmed at the Pilot Mound United Methodist Church. She attended grade school, high school, and graduated from Grand Community Schools with the class of 1973. She tried to attend every class reunion she could, and attending the 50th reunion was a highlight for her. 4-H was also an important part of her childhood, raising a calf each year to show at the county fair.

Kathy loved to travel. She traveled many times to the west coast to visit her family and to attend reunions. Disneyland was always the best of times for her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Phyllis Roberts; her brother, Joe Roberts; grandparents, Charles and Grace Roberts and Marie and Joseph Tilley; as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Survivors include her son, Bobby (Jess) Ahrens of Tower Hill, IL; her granddaughter, Nora Ahrens also of Tower Hill, IL; sister-in-law, Sunisa Roberts of Marion, IA; brother, John Roberts of Boone, IA; nephews, Charles (Sarah) Roberts of Marion, IA; Joe (Som) Roberts of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; and Nickolaus Roberts of Boone, IA; great nephews, Ryan Getz and Mitchell Getz of Marion, IA; and Tiber Roberts of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; great nieces, Olivia Getz and Piper Roberts of Marion, IA; and Taylor Roberts of Boone, IA.
