Kenneth Schlief

Kenneth W. Schlief 68, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2011, at his home.

Kenny's wishes were to be cremated. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Rev. Vic Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery.

Kenneth Woodrow Schlief was born on June 16, 1943, in Owatonna, Minnesota, the son of Woodrow and Lillian (Olson) Schlief. He graduated with the Dayton High School class of 1962, and went on to receive a degree in Autocad from Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.

On August 24, 1963, Kenny was united in marriage to Lynn C. Richardson at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. To this union two children were born: Gary and Tracy.

Kenny was employed by Featherlite Trailer's in Cresco, and Quinn's Foundry in Boone. He later worked at Precision Machine in Story City until retiring due to ill health in 2008.

Kenny belonged to Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Kenny was active in the Dayton Community where he was one of the founding members of the Dayton Rescue Squad and was a Red Cross First Aid Instructor. He also served on the Dayton Fire Department and was a past Fire Chief, served on the Dayton City Council, was a board member of the Dayton Speedway, and served on the Dayton Rodeo Celebration Committee for over 20 years.

Among the survivors are his wife of 48 years, Lynn Schlief of Dayton, Iowa; son, Gary Schlief of Stratford, Iowa; two granddaughters, Christina Schlief and Amanda Elsberry; two great-grandchildren, Reese and Kailynn; sisters, Beverly Strandberg of Dayton, Iowa, and Debra (Adam) Stovall of Shoreview, Minnesota; brother, Robert (Sandra) Schlief of Douglasville, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Tracy Schlief-Elsberry.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
