L. Kenneth Haleen

L. Kenneth Haleen, 78, of Boxholm, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 19, 2010, at the Boone County Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 23, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm. Rev. Rod Meyer will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden with Military Graveside Rites presented by the Boone Veteran's Council. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.

Kenneth Haleen was born on October 23, 1931, in rural Boone County, Iowa, the son of George and Fern (Lindholm) Haleen. He was baptized at Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone and later confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm. Kenny graduated with the Boxholm Consolidated High School class of 1949. Following his education, he served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War from October of 1951 until his honorable discharge in March of 1955. Kenny was united in marriage to Mary Ann Burt on October 26, 1952, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden. The couple established their home southwest of Boxholm where they farmed for many years and Kenny was an innovator, using soil conservation techniques. Kenny also worked at Oscar Mayer in Perry for 21 years.

Kenny belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church and the Arthur Anderson American Legion Post #63 of Boxholm, and the Boone County Conservation Board. Some of his favorite activities were camping, boating, and skiing, and the annual family vacation spent at the Lake of the Ozarks. He also had an interest in electronics and mechanics, and enjoyed following his grandchildren's activities.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Haleen of Boxholm, Iowa; two daughters and son-in-laws, Gail (Dr. Al) Schergen of St. Louis, Missouri, and Kim (Rich) Larson of Pilot Mound, Iowa; six grandchildren, Mary (Pete) Bergstrom, Amy (James) Hawcott, Mandy Larson, Scott Larson, Katie Schergen, and Kenny Schergen; two great grandchildren, Owen and Thomas Bergstrom; one sister, Dolores Bankson of Lincoln, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
