Larry Phillips

R. Larry Phillips, 68, of Duncombe, Iowa, died Monday, September 28, 2009, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.

Larry's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 1, 2009, at Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe. Pastor James Zuehls will officiate. Private family burial of ashes will be held at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh at a later date. Carson - Stapp Funeral home in Dayton is in charge of the arrangements.

Richard Larry Phillips was born on July 20, 1941, in Dayton, Iowa, the son of Hubert and Violet (Stoneburner) Phillips. He graduated with the Central Webster High School class of 1961. He later graduated from Iowa Central Community College where he studied livestock management, marketing, and horticulture. In 1962, Larry was drafted into the United States Army, serving until 1963. Larry was united in marriage to Georgia May on September 17, 1966. The couple lived and farmed near Brushy Creek in Webster County for many years. He owned and operated Larry's Delivery & Moving for several years and also farmed vegetables. In 1991, he retired due to ill health.

Larry was a longtime member of Washington Lutheran Church in Duncombe. He served as a Cub Scout Leader, 4 - H Leader, was a former member of the Webster County Fair Board, was a lifetime member of the D.A.V., and had served on the Webster City Chamber of Commerce, representing the Webster City Farmer's Market. Larry also raised Black Angus Cattle for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Georgia Phillips of Duncombe, Iowa; two sons, Kevin Phillips of Harcourt, Iowa, and Kent (Cheri) Phillips of Duncombe, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jessica, Kara, Mason, and Dakota Phillips; one brother, Lee Phillips of Otho, Iowa; two sisters, Kathy (John) Wendel of Dayton, Iowa, and Karen (Paul) Van Zandt of Altoona, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
