Larue A. Ballentine

LaRue A. Ballentine, 90, of Ogden, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Paul Evans will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden, Iowa. Visitation will be Monday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden.

LaRue Aileen Morgan was born on November 3, 1918, in Boone County, Iowa, the daughter of Fred A. and Laura Mae (Jenner) Morgan. She attended country schools through the 7th grade, and then attended Perry schools for one month before attending Ogden schools through her Jr. year in high school.

LaRue was united in marriage to C. Emmett Engleen on August 24, 1936, at Bethany, Missouri. To this union three children were born: Rodney, Dwight, and Dianne. The couple made their home in Ogden where LaRue was a homemaker and helped many, many people with their work including house sitting and baby sitting. She also enjoyed washing windows. In July of 1953, LaRue married Dave Stevens in Carroll, Iowa. Dave passed away in February of 1959. LaRue was married to F.W. Ballentine in 1964, at Huxley Iowa, and they later divorced. LaRue moved to the Evangelical Free Church Home in December of 2006.

LaRue belonged to the Community United Methodist Church, the McGraw Senior Center, and the Ogden Business Women, as well as the Order of the Eastern Star Faithful Chapter#279, Woodward, Iowa.

Survivors include two sons, Rodney (Nancy) Engleen of Boone, Iowa, and Dwight Engleen of Slater, Iowa; one daughter, Dianne (Ron) Harris of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Morgan; eight grandchildren, Chalon, Troy, Shawn, Gavin, Marty, Chad, Brian, and Melissa; seven great grandchildren, Megan, Kelby, Taylon, Taylor, Sean, Aaron, and Dylan; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dave Stevens; five sisters; and two brothers.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
