Laura M. Nekvinda, 74, of Paton, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at the Greene County Hospital in Jefferson.
Laura's wishes were to be cremated. A celebration of her life will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 20, 2009, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Paton. Pastor Daniel Emmert will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Burial of ashes will be held at a later date at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh.
Laura Marie Hess was born on August 17, 1934, in Narka, Kansas, the daughter of John and Agnes (Rieke) Hess. She was united in marriage to LeRoy "Nick" Nekvinda on July 28, 1976, in Rapid City, South Dakota. Laura had lived in Lehigh, Dayton, Indianola, Fort Dodge, and Paton. Laura was a homemaker and a very caring mother and grandmother.
Laura belonged to the First United Presbyterian Church in Paton. She was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed knitting, crafts, and cooking for family and friends. Laura and LeRoy also enjoyed traveling in their motor home and had wintered in the south for fifteen years.
Survivors include her husband of thirty two years, LeRoy "Nick" Nekvinda of Paton, Iowa; four daughters, Johnna (John) Walley of Glendale, Arizona, Patricia (Randy) Croft of Farnhamville, Iowa, Cindy (Art) Belmer of Osage, Oklahoma, and Pam Blair of Paton, Iowa; one son, Mark (Pat) Dorman of Urbandale, Iowa; four step children, Diane Nekvinda of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Toni Nekvinda of Orient, Iowa, Kevin Nekvinda of Missouri, and Coral (John) Swanson of Kansas City, Kansas; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred and Audrey Elyea of Belleville, Kansas; four sisters, Gladys (Bud) Moline of Courtland, Kansas, Blanche (Leo) McCall of Courtland, Kansas, Ardie (Louie) Stone of Topeka, Kansas, and Betty (Gerald) Allen of Courtland, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, David Dorman; brother, Stan Hess; and her son-in-law, Dick Blair.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
