Lavon M. Lombard, 88, of Dayton, Iowa, died Monday, November 4, 2019, at the Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Northfield Church in Fort Dodge. Rev. Dale Harlow will officiate. Burial will be at Our Lady of Good Counsel Cemetery in Moorland, Iowa at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be Friday from 4-7 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.
Lavon Mary Riley was born on May 17, 1931, in Woolstock, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Lavina (Fosnot) Riley. She went to Colfax country school and after moving to Troy Township with her family attended schools there. Following her schooling, Lavon worked at Nelsen’s Convalescent Home in Eagle Grove before moving to Somer’s, Iowa, where she met her husband, James Lombard. Lavon was united in marriage to James Lombard on November 23, 1948, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rockwell City, Iowa. The couple moved to Dayton in 1964. Lavon worked at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton from 1972 until retiring on May 16, 1997. Jim passed away on September 29, 2016.
Lavon belonged to Christ the King Catholic Church in Dayton and attended Northfield Church in Fort Dodge. She enjoyed walking, visiting, family celebrations, camping, embroidering, and flower gardening.
Survivors include her children, Jeanette (Jim) Schwering of Waukee, Iowa, Frederick (Alice) Lombard of Ottumwa, Iowa, Sharon (Michael) McDermott of Webster City, Iowa, Linda (Roger) McFarland of Lehigh, Iowa, Karen Lombard of Des Moines, Iowa, Eddie (Ronette) Lombard of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Francis Lombard of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Robert (Cheryl) Lombard of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Roberta (Scott) Youmans of Beaufort, South Carolina, and Holly (Kim) Robinson of Stratford, Iowa; 28 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard (Joyce) Riley of Clarksville, Indiana, and Maurice (Gladys) Riley of Clarion, Iowa; one sister, Rosemary (Dennis) Tate of Apache Junction, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Lombard, one sister in infancy, and two brothers, Robert Riley, and Paul Riley.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
