Loretta Jones, 97, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Panora Nursing & Rehab Center.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 21, 2014, at the Community United Methodist Church in Ogden. Rev. Dennis Shepherd will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. Loretta Fay Buck was born on November 22, 1916, in Elk River, Minnesota, the daughter of Harry and Elsie (Davids) Buck, one of five children. The family moved when she was young and she attended a country school through the 8th grade in Howard County, Iowa. She attended West Waterloo High School for one semester before the family moved. In 1934, they came to Ogden, Iowa, where she met her husband, James T. Jones. Loretta and Jim were married on January 15, 1935. To this union three sons were born: Thomas Henry, James Harry, and Richard William, who died when one day old.
Loretta was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked as a cook in the Ogden High School hot lunch kitchen from the late 1940's into the early 1960's. From then until his death in 1971, she traveled with her husband, Jim on jobs he worked as a bookkeeper for Foor Engineering. After Jim's death she worked as a cook at Lark's Ranch in Boone for a summer and as the Night Cook at the Ogden Manor for 5-6 years. She was a member of the Ogden Community United Methodist Church and U.M.W., and the McGraw Senior Citizens Center. Loretta was a past member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and Rebecca Lodge. When she was able Loretta enjoyed going on bus tours and traveled to almost all of the 50 states. She also enjoyed playing cards and was lovingly referred to as "Lucky Jones" by her friends at the Senior Citizen's Center. Her biggest pride and joy was her family and she enjoyed family gatherings of any kind.
Those left to cherish her memories are sons, Thomas (Deanna) Jones of Sheldahl, Iowa, and James (Mary) Jones of Panora, Iowa; four grandchildren, Kyle Jones of Slater, Rachelle (Mike) Breen of Ankeny, Julie Tull of Des Moines, and Jackie (Bruce) Teague of Stoughton, Wisconsin; six great-grandchildren, Kurt Jones, Brent Jones, John Breen, Shelby Breen, Erin (Bill) Pumper, and Kelsie Teague; two step great-great-grandchildren, Kopen and Axel Pumper; brother-in-law, Dr. Charles W. Jones of Ames; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James T. Jones, two brothers, Dallas Buck and Harold Buck, two sisters, Alma Breed and Dorothy Clausen, infant son, Richard Jones, and her granddaughter, Teresa Jones.
Memorials may be made to either the Community United Methodist Church or the McGraw Senior Citizens Center in Ogden.
