Margaret Thomas, 93, of Dayton, Iowa, died Saturday, December 29, 2012, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.
Margaret's wishes were to be cremated. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Dayton. Monsignor Kevin McCoy will officiate Burial will be at Christ The King Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Church. Margaret Louise Schoettmer was born on December 12, 1919, in Duncombe, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Schwering) Schoettmer . She attended schools in the area of her birth.
On November 27, 1941, Margaret was united in marriage to Jack L. Thomas at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Duncombe. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters: Janet, Betty, and Jackie.
Margaret was employed by the Dayton Elementary School in food service for many years until retiring.
Margaret belonged to Christ the King Catholic Church in Dayton where she was active in St. Agnes Altar Society as well as other church activities. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and flower gardening.
Among the survivors are three daughters, Janet (Darrell) Kinsey of Dayton, Iowa, Betty Brend of Churdan, Iowa, and Jackie A. Anderson of Webster City, Iowa; six grandchildren, Tom, Tim, Amy, Sarah, Eric, and Lisa; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Thomas on September 8, 1999; son-in-law, Dick Brend; five sisters, Viola Dawson, Evelyn Jebron, Ann Koestner, and two sisters in infancy; and one brother, Fredrick Schoettmer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
