Marian L. Peterson

Marian L. Peterson, 93, of Dayton, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

Marian's wishes were to be cremated. Private family graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2010, in the Dayton Cemetery. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton is in charge of the arrangements.

Marian Linnea Eklund was born on April 12, 1917, in Dayton, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Eva (Soder) Eklund. She attended schools in the area of her birth. Marian was united in marriage to Walter Brockman on May 4, 1935, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The couple lived in Fort Dodge for several years before returning to Dayton where they established their home. Walter passed away on May 30, 1976. On September 4, of 1979, Marian married Ralph Peterson. Ralph passed away on December 15, 1989.

Marian was a lifelong member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton where she was active in many church activities. She enjoyed cooking, was an excellent seamstress, and was an avid crossword puzzle worker.

Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis (Burdette) Heikens of Carefree, Arizona; one step son, Ron (Joan) Peterson of Clive, Iowa; two step daughters, Mary Lind of Gowrie, Iowa, and Carol Gaskill of Wyoming; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Cormack of Massena, Iowa, and Laird (Michele) Heikens of Rancho Santa Margarita, California; two great grandchildren, Shawn and Amber Heikens; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; one sister, Vivian Carlson of Dayton, Iowa; and one half brother, Harold (Donna) Bjornson of Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Walter Brockman and Ralph Peterson; one son, Robert Brockman; one brother Verle Eklund; one sister, Inez Adamson; two half brothers, Maurice Bjornson and Melvin Bjornson; and one half sister, Harriet Vance.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be left to the Dayton Public Library, 36 West Skillet Ave., Dayton, Iowa, 50530.
