Marie D. Bengtson, 102, of Boxholm, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Grandview Health Care Center, in Dayton, Iowa.
A funeral service for Marie will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm, Iowa with Rev. Rod Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Cemetery in rural Boxholm. A visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Marie Dorothy Freeman, daughter of Herbert and Lillie (Swanson) Freeman was born on July 7, 1922 in Boxholm, Iowa. Marie graduated from Boxholm High School with the class of 1939.
On May 8, 1943, Marie was united in marriage to Waldo F. Bengtson in Boxholm. To this union two sons were born: Barry and Rick.
Marie was a member of Trinity Lutheran church in Boxholm, where she had taught Sunday school and vacation bible school for many years. She was also active as congregation secretary, member of the church council, countryside ministry council, church choir, and held various other positions in WELCA and other church circles. She was a member of the Dayton Country Club and the Boxholm Community Club. Marie enjoyed taking care of the flowers at the town park and at the church in Boxholm.
In addition to her parents, Marie was also preceded in death by her husband, Waldo Bengtson; and her two sisters, Darlene Hanson and Elaine Kauffman.
Survivors include her two sons, Barry (Pat) Bengtson of Perry, and Rick (Kim) Bengtson of Paton; grandchildren, Ryan (Laura) Bengtson of Minburn, Bradley Bengtson of Waukee, Nicole (A.J.) Shute of Austin, MN, and Ben Bengtson of Ogden; three great granddaughters, Cassidy and Marissa Shute, and Olivia Bengtson; her brother-in-law, Dick Bengtson; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given in memory of Marie, to Trinity Lutheran Church in Boxholm.
