Marjorie M. Smalley, 78, of Beaver, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.
Marjorie's wishes were to be cremated. Visitation will be Monday, May 30, 2016, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden, Iowa, with a memorial service starting at 3:00 p.m., with a light dinner and Celebration of Life to follow at the Beaver Community Center. Marjorie Mae Hanley was born on March 29, 1938, in Washington County, Iowa, the daughter of Bill and Carrie (Morgan) Hanley. She graduated from North English High School. After high school Marjorie served for a year as a volunteer for the Church of the Brethren. Marjorie graduated from McPherson College in McPherson, Kansas.
On January 23, 1960, Marjorie was united in marriage to Dale Smalley at English River Church of the Brethren in South English, Iowa. This union was blessed with four children: Kim, Deb, Russell, and Teresa. Dale and Marjorie established their home in Beaver in 1962.
Marjorie was the Director of the Boone County Head Start program for many years. She worked as the activity director for the Ogden Manor, and later worked for Wal-Mart in Boone. Her passion was serving the Lord as Pastor of the Beaver Church of the Brethren and United Methodist Yoked Church in Beaver.
Marjorie belonged to the Beaver Church of the Brethren where she was the pastor for many years. She was the moderator of the Northern Plains District in 2010. Marjorie loved to paint, make scrubbies, and she loved to travel.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Dale on March 10, 2016.
Survivors include her four children, Kim (Joe) Pritchett of Vale, North Carolina, Deb (Richard) Dunne of Ames, Iowa, Russell (Lauri) Smalley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Teresa Kidd of Mulvane, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, Chris and J.J. Pritchett, Carrie, Nicholas (Autumn), Philip, Emma, and Esther Dunne, Shawn (Becky) and Russell Smalley, and Justus and Bailey Kidd; 3 great-grandchildren, Ajay, Claire, and Liam Smalley; two sisters, Maxine (Darrel) Demory of Newport, Oregon, and Marilyn (Jim) Schweitzer of Winthrop, Iowa; one brother, Richard (Patti) Hanley of Newtown, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
