Marvin Stumpenhorst, 85, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone. Rev. Lindsay Watkins will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Boone Veterans Council. Marvin Erwin Stumpenhorst was born on May 15, 1930, in Blue Hill, Nebraska the son of Edward and Rosa (Siebrass) Stumpenhorst. He was baptized on June 22, 1930, and confirmed on May 3, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Hill, Nebraska. Marvin graduated from Ogden High School with the class of 1947. Following his education, Marvin enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years, traveling between Thule Greenland and the Caribbean transporting supplies. While in the service Marvin became a member of "The Order of the Golden Dragon" a Navel Fraternity for sailors who have crossed the International Date Line

On October 21, 1955, Marvin was united in marriage to Ruth Rogers at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Marvin and Ruth made their home on a farm south of Ogden.

Marvin loved the Lord as his personal Savior and belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone. He belonged to the American Legion. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling to Canada for the summer and Texas for the winter. Marvin and Ruth were able to travel to 48 states in their motor home

Survivors include his four children, Mark (Kendra) Stumpenhorst of Stratford, Iowa, JoEllen (Kelly) Nissen of Pilot Mound, Iowa, Carma Jean (Larry) Ahrens of Staplehurst, Nebraska, and John (Colleen) Stumpenhorst of Yukon, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Amanda (Eli) Frakes, Hans Stumpenhorst, Rob (Monica) Carpenter, Dan (Heather) Carpenter, Eric Ahrens, and Kathryn Stumpenhorst; four great-grandchildren, Quinton and Alexis Frakes, Jeremiah and Samuel Carpenter; one sister, Eldora (John) Heineman of Ogden, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Dean Youngren of Ogden, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Mary Lois Corson, Faye Grems, and Marion Rogers, all of Boone, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Ruth, brother, Charles Stumpenhorst, and sister, Vera Youngren.
