Marvin Wayne Sorber

Marvin W. Sorber, 81, of Dayton, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Fort Dodge Health and Rehabilitation in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

A memorial service for Marvin will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Dayton, Iowa. Military Rites will be conducted by the Peterson American Legion Post #323 of Dayton, Iowa. Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday until the time of service at the church. Burial will be held at a later date at the Pilot Mound Cemetery.

Marvin Wayne Sorber, son of Edwin and Pearl (Bennett) Sorber was born on May 9, 1937 in Freewater, Oregon. At the age of two, Marvin’s family moved to the Perry and Rippey, Iowa area where he attended elementary at Minburn Consolidated Country School. On March 1, 1949, his family moved to the Dayton area where he completed his education. On February 25, 1960, Marvin entered the U.S. Army where he served in the 44th Artillery Battalion in South Korea until being honorably discharged on March 5, 1962. Following his discharge, Marvin returned to Dayton and back to his beloved Des Moines river valley home. Marvin was a life-long farmer and dedicated much of his time helping his dad farm the Edwin Sorber Family farm as well as managing his own. On January 3, 1986 Marvin married Betty Cho, the single love of his life and mother to his daughter, Janet. Unfortunately, the couple later divorced.

Survivors include his daughter, Janet (Timothy) Moon of Anchorage, AK; grandson, Phillip Moon also of Anchorage; granddaughter, Page (Joseph) Moon of Fairfax, VA; 6 siblings, Velma Iles of Ankeny, IA., Loren (Zoe Ann) Sorber of Bennett, CO., Judi (Glen) Anderson of Story City, IA., Mylin Sorber and Vernon Sorber both of Bennett, CO., and Phyllis (Ron) Bender of Ankeny, IA.

In addition to his parents and ex-wife Betty, Marvin was also preceded in death by his brother, Harlan Sorber.

Memorials may be given in memory of Marvin to the American Cancer Society.
