Mary Beth Stickel

Mary Beth Stickel, 57, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on May 4, 2020, at her home.

Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time. Burial will be at a later date at Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein, Iowa. Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Mary Beth Stickel was born on July 15, 1962, in Crookston, Minnesota, the daughter of Gordon and Madonna (Roy) Stickel.

In 1990, Mary Beth was married to Ronald J. Cummings at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Ronald passed away in October of 1991. Mary Beth attended Iowa State University in Ames, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in child & family services in 2000. In November of 2001, she married Doug Owenson. They were later divorced. She has resided in Dayton since 1989 where she worked at Grandview Health Care Center in many capacities for over 20 years, and then as an administrative assistant for several years at Sandholm Insurance until their closing, and finally at the Dayton Review. On May 16, 2019, Mary Beth was united in marriage to Steve Walker at their home in Dayton.

Mary Beth enjoyed quilting and making barn quilts. She loved her grand puppy, Cooper, and visiting the ocean ~ her favorite place of all.

She was preceded in death by her father, and her first husband, Ronald J. Cummings.

Survivors include her husband, Steve Walker of Dayton, IA; twin daughters, Majesta Gregory currently serving in the Unites States Air Force and stationed in South Korea, and Amber Walker of Columbia, South Carolina; her mother, Madonna Stickel of Oelwein, IA; stepchildren, Brittany “Duee” Haar, Travis Owenson, Tyson Owenson, and Jason Bradley; siblings, Dana (Jacob) Starr of Cloverdale, CA, Kevin (Valerie) Stickel of Oelwein, IA, and Dawn (Scott) Hammond of Aurora, IA; Majesta & Amber’s father, Duane Walker of Oelwein, IA; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and step-grandchildren.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
