Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, April 23, 2023 at the Ogden Baptist Church, followed by Mary’s funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Pastor Curt Fincham will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date at Bass Point Cemetery in rural Boone, Iowa.
Mary Lou Myers was born on August 21, 1942, in Manilla, Iowa, the daughter of Gilbert and Helen (Reinfeldt) Myers.
Mary moved to the Ogden area in her teens where she made her home for the rest of her life.
Shortly after moving to Ogden, a mutual friend brought a young gentleman caller named Doug Crouse to her house who then asked her to go roller skating with him. One skating date lead to another and on September 18, 1961 she married Douglas MacArthur Crouse of Ogden and together they had three children, Ed (Christina) Crouse of Rushville, MO, Sheila (Wesley) Jones of Moore, SC and Ginny (Bruce) Amdahl of Grimes, IA.
Always an avid reader and history buff, Mary stressed the importance of reading and education to her children.
She served the Ogden community in a variety of roles over the years including activity director of the Ogden Manor and the Ogden Community School System in the lunch room and as crossing guard.
Mary enjoyed camping, gardening, arts and crafts and taking care of her four-legged fur babies.
But what “Nana” enjoyed most was doting on and talking about, to whoever would listen, her eight grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother Clara Myers and brothers Melvin Myers and Richard Bosma.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Douglas Crouse, her three children, eight grandchildren, siblings Laura (Gerald) Cooper of IA and brothers Gary Meyers of CA and Denny Myers of NE, along with many much loved nephews and nieces.
Memorials may be made to EveryStep Kavanagh House and Immanuel Pathways of Des Moines.
