Mary Lou Strandberg, 87, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Mary Lou's life will be held Thursday, August 24, 2017, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 25, 2017, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton. Pastor Russ Crouthamel will officiate. Mary Lou Okey was born July 25, 1930, at home in Dayton, Iowa, the daughter of Baird J. & Mary T. (Desch) Okey. She grew up in Dayton, attending the local school, graduating in the class of 1948. She also attended Tobin Business College of Fort Dodge for one year.

On September 18, 1954, she was united in marriage to Jack E. Strandberg at Emanuel Lutheran Church, Dayton. They were blessed with one son, Timothy Jack.

Mary Lou was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Some of her favorite times included spending time with her family and friends, playing golf, writing a weekly meditation for the Dayton Review and teaching a women's Bible study in her church. She served in many capacities in her church, serving on the Church Council for 14 years, ELCW President and Sunday School Teacher. She taught a weekly Bible study for women for over 20 years.

Her professional occupation was working for the United States Postal Service for almost 38 years. For 32 years she was a Postal Clerk and she ended her career as Postmaster of Callender, Iowa from 1989-1994.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Timothy (Cheryl) Strandberg of Dayton; two grandchildren, Ben (Laurie) Strandberg of Dayton, Mariah (Rich) Duszynski of Story City; and four-great grandchildren, Megan and Rhett Strandberg of Dayton and Memphis and Dodge Duszynski of Story City, Iowa; brother-in-law, Charles (Marilyn) Strandberg of Mason City, and sister-in-law, Beverly Strandberg of Dayton; three nephews, John, Jim & Corey Strandberg and two nieces, Pam Clancy and Nancy Opperman; and cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 58 years Jack Strandberg, brother-in-law, Keith Strandberg, and sister-in-law, Lois Strandberg.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
