Meinhard Hollman

Meinhard Hollman, 94, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away Wednesday evening, September 27, 2017, at Stratford Specialty Care.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Rev. Michael R. Standfest will officiate. Visitation will be prior to the service at the Church, starting at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be at North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #1856. Meinhard John Hollman was born on November 15, 1922, on an acreage south of Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of John and Lydia (Meyer) Hollman. He graduated with the Burnside High School class of 1941.

Meinhard served in the United States Army for two years during WWII. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge where he received severe frostbite to his feet and spent many months recovering at a hospital in England. Following his honorable discharge in January of 1946, he returned home and began farming near Burnside with his father.

On July 25, 1944, Meinhard was united in marriage to Bernice Finck at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. The couple lived and farmed near Burnside and Meinhard also worked at the ASC office in Fort Dodge for some years.

Meinhard belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton. He served on the School Board, and was a member of D.A.V. and V.F.W. He enjoyed coffee in Burnside and Lehigh, card club, team bowling, and engaging in farming in his later years with Ivan and Karl. He will be sadly missed.

Survivors include two sons, Ivan (Pam) Hollman of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Karl (Pat) Hollman of Burnside, Iowa; grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Jessica, Brian, Steven, and Emily; great-grandson, Max; and his sister, Bernice Finck who resides at Stratford Specialty Care.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his uncle George Hollman, brother-in-law, Ray Finck, granddaughter, Valerie Hollman, and his wife, Bernice Hollman on November 2, 2012.

Meinhard moved from his home in Dayton to the Athens Woods Estates in Stratford. He has been a patient at Stratford Specialty Care for the last year. His family would like to thank the nursing staff, Penny Osborn PA, Care Initiatives Hospice, and Rev. Michael R. Standfest, for the special care he received. He was never in want of anything.
