Merrill V. Lamm, 98, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at the Community United Methodist Church Ogden. Steve Satre will officiate. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. Merrill Vernon Lamm was born on September 1, 1918, the son of Floyd and Hazel (Short) Lamm. He graduated with the Truro High School class of 1936. He farmed with his dad in the Truro area.
On February 28, 1942, Merrill was united in marriage to Beula Muselman. He enlisted in the Army Air Force after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. From 1943 to 1945 he served in the New Guinea, Philippine and Okinawa theaters. Merrill was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant on October 5, 1945.
The couple moved to Omaha where he worked for a couple years. In 1947 the couple moved to the Ogden area where they farmed until he retired in 1991.
Merrill was a member of the Community United Methodist Church, Edward J. Mass American Legion Post #55, and a 50 year member of the Rhodes Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, spending time with his family and loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 75 years Beula; five children; Angela (John) Lewis of Council Bluffs, IA, Ann (Ray) Polito of Granger, IA, Alana (Charles) Beck of Johnston, IA, Alan (Carolyn) Lamm of Ogden, IA, and Anita Lamm; 17 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one sister Helen Lorenzen of Winterset, IA, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Arlen Lamm, daughter Annise Thompson, and two sisters Ethel Rosander and Virginia Beener.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
