Michael Garrety, 60, died suddenly Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at his home in Boxholm, Iowa.

Michael's body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Michael Garrety was born on March 26, 1948, in Covington, Kentucky, the son of Frank and Anna May (Huelsman) Garrety. He graduated from High school in Henderson, Nevada, before attending college in Las Vegas. Michael worked in the financial industry in Los Angeles, California for many years. He later moved to San Francisco and worked as a Stock Broker until retiring in 2000. In 2001, Michael was united in marriage to Cyndie Van Gilder Grieser in Reno, Nevada. The couple made their home in Boxholm.

Michael was a very generous and giving person who had the ability to see the best in everyone. He enjoyed working on computers, listening to talk radio, keeping in touch with his family and taking long car trips, traveling around the country with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Garrety of Boxholm, Iowa; step children, Beau Redstone of Tiburon, California, Tony (Shasta) Grieser of Adel, Iowa, Adam Grieser of Tempe, Arizona, and Tyler Grieser of Johnston, Iowa; five brothers, Gary (Joan) Garrety of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Frank of Ventura, California, Pat (Karen) Garrety of Oxnard, California, Douglas (Ru) Garrety of Dallas, Oregon, and Tad (Celia) Garrety of Moreno Valley, California; and many nieces and nephews that he treasured and a sister in law, Diana Van Gilder and Robert Harmon from Ankeny. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Tim Garrety
