Norman K. Lieske

Norman K. Lieske, 76, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010, at Taylor House hospice in Des Moines.

Masonic funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 3, 2010, at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the Boone Veterans Council. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home.

Norman Keith Lieske was born on September 4, 1933, in Greene County, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Bernice (Adams) Lieske. He graduated with the Ogden High School class of 1952. Norman was drafted into the United States Army, serving from May of 1953 until his honorable discharge in May of 1955. He went on to attend technical college in Chicago, Illinois, graduating as an Electrical Engineer.

On July 2, 1955, Norman was united in marriage to Lavonne Jean Boyden in Perry, Iowa. The couple lived in St. Louis, Missouri, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Chicago, Illinois. In 1961, Norman and Lavonne returned to Ogden where they farmed the Boyden family farm south of Ogden. Lavonne passed away on August 19, 2002.

Norman belonged to the Edward J. Maas American Legion Post #55, and the Rhodes Masonic Lodge #303. He was also a member of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines and enjoyed serving as a hospital Dad for the Shriner's Hospital. Norman spent his time flying radio controlled airplanes, golfing, and reading.

Survivors include his son, Steven (Mike Bennett) Bennett of Portland, Oregon; daughter, Michelle (Steve Bert) Lieske of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Dylan Bert, Madison Bert, and Soren Bennett; three brothers, Ronald (Ann) Lieske, Myron (Marian) Lieske, and Clifford Lieske Jr. (Pat); two sisters, Janice Ward and Ruth (Ted) Christensen; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lavonne Lieske; and one daughter, Kathy Wade.
