Opal L. Heun, 94, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2022, at her home in Dayton.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2022, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Pastor Kay. Christie will officiate. Burial will be at Christ the King Catholic Cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Opal Lorene Acheson was born on December 21, 1927, in Allerton, Iowa, the daughter of Ray and Vina (Greenlee) Acheson. She graduated with the Allerton High School class of 1945. Following her education, Opal moved to Des Moines where she worked in the Insurance Field. In 1950, she moved to Fort Dodge and was employed by Gates Department Store for the next three years.
On October 7, 1950, Opal was united in marriage to Harold Richard Heun in Des Moines. The couple farmed in Barnum and Duncombe before moving to an acreage south of Dayton in 1959, where they lived and farmed for many years. In 1993, they retired from farming and moved into town. Harold passed away on June 5, 2014.
Opal was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Dayton. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading.
Survivors include five children, Denny (Pam) Heun of Columbia, Missouri, Elaine (Jim) Fevold of Gowrie, Iowa, Ray (Kathy) Heun of Dayton, Iowa, Duane (Lori) Heun of Dayton, Iowa, and Jeanne (Tom) Stoneburner
of Dayton, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Heun, Will Fevold, Gabe Heun, Linsey Christie, Lisa Anderson, Jenni Kallenbach, Jessica Pickett, Kaci Mahannah, Shane Stoneburner, and Jeremy Dodson; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Mary Rogers of Fort Dodge, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold Heun, daughter, Joyce Andrews, grandson, Brian Heun, great-granddaughter, Dakotah Fevold, three brothers, and two sisters.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
