Phyllis Jean Kinsey

Phyllis J. Kinsey, 90, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021, at Friendship Haven ~ Arbor Lane in Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Pastor Kay. Christie will officiate. Burial will follow at the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service at the Church, starting at 9:00 a.m. Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton has been entrusted with the arrangements. Phyllis Jean Sandholm was born on May 13, 1931, in Boxholm, Iowa, the daughter of Russell and Dorothy (Moreland) Sandholm. She graduated with the Dayton Consolidated High School class of 1949.

On July 20, 1950, Phyllis was united in marriage to Dwight Marvin Kinsey at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. The couple lived in Boulder, Colorado, from 1962 until 1973, and Phyllis worked at J.C. Penney during this time. In 1973, they returned to Dayton where they owned & operated Kinsey Ford, Inc., and Kinsey Used Cars, retiring in 2005. Dwight passed away on May 8, 2012.

Phyllis has been a member of the United Methodist Church in Dayton since 1947, and was baptized, confirmed, and married, all in the same Church. She enjoyed volunteer work and was active in the Dayton Community Club, after school kid’s program, and the U.M.C. Women’s Group. Family and friends were always her greatest enjoyment. Another great joy was writing and sending a small gift on the first day of every month to each grandchild while they attended college

Among the survivors are her daughter, Linda (Robert) Moody of Greeley, Colorado; two sons, Larry (Jill) Kinsey of Longwood, Florida, and Lance (Stacey) Kinsey of Johnston, Iowa; grandchildren, Bobby (Betsy) Moody, Courtney Moody, Katharine (Marville) Tucker, Austin (Megan) Kinsey, Leslie Kinsey, and Kylie Kinsey; great-granddaughters, Morgan, Avery, and Lillian Moody; sister, Beverly Gilbert; and her brother, Gayle (Deanne) Sandholm.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dwight Kinsey, son, Lee Kinsey and one brother, Bruce Sandholm.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
