Richard "Dick" Tell, 84, of Dayton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.
Dick's wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Pastor Michael Standfest will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the Church. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery at a later date. Richard Benson Tell was born on March 11, 1929, in Harcourt, Iowa, the son of Frank William and Elsie Mae (Waters) Tell.
Dick graduated with the Dayton High School class of 1947. Following his education, Dick served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
On August 28, 1953, Dick was united in marriage to Erma June Rosendahl at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. To this union two children were born: Gary and Carol.
Dick owned and operated Telco Inc. in Dayton. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton, and belonged to the Peterson American Legion Post #323, the Dayton Lions Club, and served as Mayor of Dayton from 1992 to 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Erma Tell of Dayton, Iowa; son, Gary Tell of Fort Dodge, Iowa; daughter, Carol (Keith) Harrison of Fort Dodge, Iowa; grandchildren, and
great grandchildren; sisters, Adeline Eslick and Marge Iles both of Dayton, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Verna Larson, four brothers Gerald, Robert, Keith, and George "Wayne" Tell.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
