Richard Stephen Mead

Richard S. Mead, 81, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away at his home on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

A visitation for Richard will begin at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Carson-Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M. Reverend Andrew Bardole of Heartland Hospice will officiate. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Friday, November 22, 2024 at Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa. Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard Funeral Honors of Camp Dodge, Iowa. 

Richard Stephen Mead, son of Roger and Helen (Weston) Mead was born on June 27, 1943 in Mitchellville, Iowa. He graduated from Knoxville High School with the class of 1961. Following graduation, he attended the University of Iowa where he became an avid Hawkeye fan. Richard honorably served in the U.S. Army from February of 1965 thru January of 1967. While in the Army he toured many European countries.

Following his honorable discharge, Richard worked for a bank in Des Moines. He then accepted a position at Firestone where he worked many years until his retirement. Richard loved history, especially Lincoln and the Civil War era. He had amassed an extensive book collection and spent many vacations visiting Civil War battle fields and military parks. 

Although Richard did not have any children of his own, he has been Uncle Richard for three generations of his family. The time that he spent with his family will always be treasured. Richard loved puzzles and games, and had a wonderful sense of humor. 

In addition to his parents, Richard was also preceded in death by his sister, Donna Mead; brother-in-law, Bob Heater; nephew, Robert Bebb; and great niece, Amber Bebb.

Those remaining to cherish his memory are his sister, Marilyn Heater of Ogden; brother, Larry (Rachel) Mead of California; brother, Harold Mead of Ogden; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. All memorials will be given in memory of Richard to Heartland Hospice.
