Robert C. Lathrop, 92, of Spencer, Iowa, and formerly of Humboldt and Burnside, Iowa, died Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Longhouse-Northshire Nursing Home in Spencer.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. Rev. Keith Putney will officiate. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh. Visitation will be Friday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton.

Robert Clifford Lathrop was born on June 9, 1918, in Glidden, Iowa, the son of Harmon and Ethel (Graves) Lathrop. He attended schools in Burnside. Bob was united in marriage to Evelyn A. Schultz on September 26, 1936, at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. Bob was employed as a custodian by the Burnside Consolidated Schools, later known as East Central, and then Central Webster, for 38 years, until retiring in 1980. Bob and Evelyn made their home in Burnside for over 40 years. In 2002, the couple moved to Humboldt, and in September of 2008, to Spencer.

Bob was a former member of the Baptist Church in Burnside. He enjoyed gardening and mowing, and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Most of all, Bob enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Lathrop of Spencer, Iowa; two sons, Ronald (Relda) Lathrop of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Ray (Nancy) Lathrop of Spencer, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Roberta Nehring; son, Roger Jack Lathrop; granddaughter, Rebecca Hurley; great-grandson, Kyle Sturgis; three sisters, Marie Bowles, Mae Oviatt, and Ruth Stumbo; and three brothers, Wilbur, Guy, and Sherman Lathrop.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
