Robert Carl Powers

Robert C. Powers, 96, of Ogden, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023, at Westhaven Community in Boone.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, July 3, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden. Pastor Christopher Walters will officiate. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Ogden. Visitation for Robert will be held from 4-6 P.M. on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church.

Robert Carl Powers, son of Walter and Florence (Brown) Powers was born July 20, 1926, in Boone County near Beaver, Iowa. He graduated from Beaver High School with the class of 1945. He honorably served in the U.S. Army from April 2, 1951 to January 1, 1953 during the Korean Conflict. Except for his service during the Korean Conflict, Bob was a dedicated farmer all his life. He met his future wife Lois thru mutual family connections.

On August 3, 1952, Robert was united in marriage to Lois Mae Murken at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa. Robert was a farmer, and the couple made their home on several farms, most of those years were spent on the farm west of Ogden, where they raised their 6 children.

They retired in 1991. Bob enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, golf, gardening, and other outdoor activities. Bob also spent several years as a Conductor on the Boone and Scenic Valley Railroad.

Robert was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden.

In addition to his parents, Robert was also preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Powers; one grandson; brother, James Powers and his sister Charlotte Nowlin.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 70 years, Lois Powers of Boone; his six children, Deborah (John) Bargman of Des Moines, Marcia (Rick) Roeder of Jefferson, Robert L. (Annette) Powers of Ogden, Jeff (Ann) Powers of North Liberty, Jay (Melodee) Powers of Newberg, OR, and Lori (Rex) King of Boone; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
