Robert Radke

Robert Radke, 68, of Boone, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden. Pastor Wade Brandt will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m., at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta, Iowa. Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Kenneth Radke was born on July 12, 1944, in Alta, Iowa, the son of Erwin and Alice (Holtz) Radke. He attended St. John's Parochial School in Hanover through the 8th grade and went on to graduate with the Alta High School class of 1962. Robert was united in marriage to Sally Carpenter on September 1, 1963 at the First Presbyterian Church in Alta. For the next four years Robert built homes for Francis Becker. He was later employed by the City of Alta for 33 years until retiring. Robert and Sally owned and operated a popcorn stand at the ballpark in Alta for several years. In 2001, Robert and Sally moved to Boone to be closer to family. Following retirement, Robert worked at Crop Production Services and Mary Greeley Medical Center. Robert currently worked with his son, Marty, at RCI Builders which he truly enjoyed.

Robert belonged to Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden. He was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Hanover where he was baptized and confirmed, and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta. He was active in many church activities including church trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, and L.Y.C. Leader. Robert also served as a Volunteer Fireman on the Alta Fire Department for over 25 years. He was proud to have built two homes for his family. Robert and Sally enjoyed playing guitar and singing at churches and nursing homes, and more recently, volunteered their time with the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Among the survivors are his wife, Sally Radke of Boone, Iowa; three daughters, Robin Wolfe of Boone, Iowa, Linda (Tyler) Huntington of Perry, Iowa, and Mindy (Aiddy) Phomvisay of Marshalltown, Iowa; one son, Marty (Trish) Radke of Adel, Iowa; son-in-law, Joe Fokken of South Sioux City, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren, Melanie (Mike) Marrero, Justin (Samantha) Wolfe, Jessica Fokken, Jamie (Shawn) Urban, Gabi, Brooke, and Addison Huntington, Elijah and Emma Phomvisay, and Cole and Sam Radke; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn (Arlin) Hinkeldey of Cherokee, Iowa; one brother, Gordon (Doris) Radke of Warden, Montana; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lisa Marie Fokken; sister and brother-in-law, Carol (Del) McCoy; and his parents-in-law, Carol and Marie Carpenter.
