Roger Eugene McFarland, 73, of Boxholm, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Green Hills Health Care Center in Ames with family by his side.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Carson – Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Burial will be at Saratoga Cemetery north of Stanhope. Roger Eugene McFarland was born on August 9, 1939, in Imogene, Minnesota, the son of Weldon and Frances (Schutt) McFarland. He attended schools in Fort Dodge prior to enlisting in the United States Navy.
On December 27, 1958, Roger was united in marriage to Joyce Navarette in Reno, Nevada. The couple had lived in Blue Earth, Minnesota, and Fort Dodge, before establishing their home in Boxholm in 1964. In his earlier years, Roger worked at the U.S.G. (Gypsum Mills) in Fort Dodge, and at Bill's Mobile Service in Boxholm. He was later employed as a shift supervisor at Van Diest Supply Company in Webster City until retiring. Roger's hobbies included geocaching, metal detecting, and traveling with his wife, Joyce.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy (Mark) Dale of Ames, Iowa; three sons, Eugene McFarland (Rene Owens) of Monroe, North Carolina, Wayne (Kelly) McFarland of Omaha, Nebraska, Roger (Maria) McFarland of Story City, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one brother, Wayne (Cindy) McFarland of Dougherty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joyce McFarland on January 24, 2006, one brother, Kenneth McFarland, one sister, Sandy Omann, and an infant grandson, Adam Lee Larson.
