Roger Shelton Smith Jr.

Roger S. Smith Jr., 88, of Lehigh, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton 

A funeral service for Roger will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 18, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Lehigh, Iowa. Pastor Philip Berger will officiate. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Lehigh. A visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2024, also at the United Methodist Church. Roger Shelton Smith, son of Roger, SR. and Lena (Murphy) Smith was born on January 15, 1936, in Lehigh, Iowa. Roger graduated from Lehigh High School in 1953. Following graduation, Roger worked at Lehigh Sewer Pipe and Tile for five years. On June 26, 1954, Roger married Judy Lavon Bunting at the United Methodist Church in Lehigh. The couple made their home in Lehigh. Roger was an owner operator truck driver for over 25 years. He then worked for 18 years in the maintenance department at Electrolux in Webster City until his retirement. 

Roger enjoyed his pets, Lehigh River Days, motorcycle rides, deer hunting, and watching & feeding the wildlife that would visit his yard. His memberships also included, Lehigh Lions Club, Lehigh Historical Society, and served one term on the Lehigh City Council. 

Survivors include his daughter, Kathy (Rick Keenan) Swenson of Lehigh; son, Bob (Chris) Smith of Woodward; son-in-law, Jim Bray of Lehigh; 7 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 4 great great-grandsons; brother, Danny (Sue) Smith of Lehigh; two sisters, Lenore Page of Waseca, MN, and Marilyn McCubbin of Fort Dodge; sister-in-law, Sue Smith of Gowrie; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, Roger was also preceded in death by his loving wife Judy; daughter, Juliann Bray; and three brothers, Sam, Jim and Kenny Smith.
