Russell C. Anderson, 98, of Dayton, Iowa, died Friday, October 21, 2011, at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 24, 2011, at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home in Dayton. Rev. Julian Swanson will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., at Carson - Stapp Funeral Home, 406 3rd St. NE., Dayton, Iowa 50530.
Russell Clemens Anderson was born on October 1, 1913, near Boxholm, Iowa, the son of Erick and Ellen (Olson) Anderson. He graduated with the Dayton High School class of 1931. Russell sold seed corn and farmed in the Dayton area his entire life. On May 16, 1945, he was united in marriage to Agnes Bethel at the Emanuel Lutheran Church parsonage in Dayton. In 1976, Russell and Agnes moved into Dayton. They retired from farming in 1978. Agnes passed away on January 14, 2007.
Russell was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dayton where he served on the Church Board. He also belonged to the Dayton Lion's Club.
Survivors include a son, Terry (Karla) Anderson of Iowa City, Iowa; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes Anderson; son, Gordon Richey Jr.; two sisters, Ruth Kalkwarf and Pearle Peterson; and two brothers, Lawrence Anderson and Raymond Anderson.
Memorials may be directed to the Dayton Rescue Squad.
