Ruth E. Heck, 82, of the Ogden Manor and formerly of Pilot Mound, went to be with the Lord on October 12, 2009.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 17, 2009, at the Pilot Mound United Methodist Church. Rev. Dennis Shepherd will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Ruth was born to Robert and Neva (Grace) Robertson at home along with her twin sister, Joy, on October 1, 1927, near Denver, Missouri. She graduated from high school in Grant City, Missouri. Ruth was united in marriage to James V. Heck Jr. on April 27, 1946, in Perry, Iowa. They moved with Jim's parents to Madrid, Iowa, and farmed. Later they moved to rural Pilot Mound where they continued farming. Ruth also worked as a nurse's aide at the Evangelical Free Church Home for 5 years.
Ruth was a member of the Pilot Mound United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, custodian, and communion steward. Ruth enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and Monday morning coffee with the ladies. Most evident was her gift of giving care and comfort to others. Ruth continues to show this gift by donating her body to Des Moines University in the hope of helping others who suffer with pulmonary fibrosis.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn (Mike) Anderson of Pilot Mound, Iowa, and Carol (Al) Treloar of Ogden, Iowa; four grandchildren, Dawn (Joe) Paris, Stacey (Casey) Sonju, Nathan Treloar, and Hayley Treloar; two great grandchildren, Carley and Sam Sonju; her twin sister, Joyce Marchant of Raytown, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James V. Heck Jr.; one brother, Kenneth; and four sisters, Pauline, Fern, Audene, and June.
